A couple of months ago, my mother was diagnosed with hydrocephalus caused by a pineal region tumor. By the time we found out, her condition was severe, and she underwent an emergency procedure at another center to place a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt, relieving the pressure on her brain. My first interaction with the Brain Institute team came shortly afterward. After sending them my mother’s documents, I spoke with Andressa Dumitrașcu and Dr. Sebastian Pavel and immediately understood the complexity of her condition. Determined to learn more, I purchased a book on pineal region tumors and read a case study about Dr. Sergiu Stoica’s minimally invasive approach to treating such tumors. In October, I traveled to Bucharest to discuss my mother’s case in person with Dr. Stoica. He is a warm and kind individual who, even after handling challenging surgeries, takes the time to sit down and talk with you, remaining calm and reassuring. His demeanor instills hope and confidence that everything will be all right. He recommended removing the tumor sooner rather than later, so the surgery was scheduled for November 27th. From the moment we arrived for hospitalization, it was evident that everything was meticulously planned. Each member of the team knew exactly what to do, and they carried out their responsibilities with the utmost care for the patient’s comfort and well-being. The surgery went exceptionally well. The tumor was removed, and my mother left the hospital with no neurological deficits—only a small, discreet scar on the back of her head that only we know is there. We are deeply grateful for this outcome.
